Read as part of CBR11bingo: Not in my wheelhouse.
If you’re curious about the title, google “Adam Driver Llewyn Davis.” If nothing else, you’ll randomly see Kylo Ren going against Poe Dameron.
Science fiction is not my thing but whenever I’m in a Star Wars mood, I crave scifi books. Fortune’s Pawn wound up on one recommended list or another. I always start a book like that and then wonder why I bother. This one was no different.
But I gritted through and this is fine, entertaining military scifi. Rachel Bach’s Paradox universe is not difficult to understand and her character is fun. Your typical roguish, hard-drinking, philandering, don’t-take-orders-from-nobody badass but written as a woman. There’s a plot with treachery afoot and romance in the air and it’s serviceable. It’s an easy read that knows what you’re there for.
But I have about 135 more words to fill? I really don’t have that much to say on this one. So if you’re curious about the book because you like science fiction, I’ll say this: I love mysteries. I consume them. If you’re not a mystery reader, there’s a good chance that you wouldn’t enjoy a fair-to-mediocre work the same way i do. I could go on in my love for mysteries but you get the point.
Anyway, if you like scifi as much as I like mysteries, especially if you like space operas, you probably owe it to yourself to check it out. It’s competently written and genuinely fun at times.
