#cbr11bingo #SummerRead
Summer time and the livin’ is easy, so you need a fun, easy, vacation read. And Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia fits that bill. (And fits my #cbr11bingo #summerread requirement). Like several of my reads this year, this book has a “How I found it” story. Picture it, lunch June 2019. A woman is sitting at a table. Crap all over it (nobody cleans up after themselves) but there, in the middle of it all was a book with a hand-written, yellow sticky note saying, “Read. Good crossover.”
Tuesday is a crazy and sophisticated beach read (with all the love that covers). I am not sure who is crazier in our cast of multiple characters: the villain, the people treasure hunting, the widow, the rich-family who were frenemies to the dead billionaire or the dead billionaire himself, who is running his treasure hunt from beyond the grave. The plot has a few holes here and there, but it is serious entertainment that cannot be taken too seriously (again, with all the love that implies because it is a good read). It will be a hit or miss for each reader on a personal level.
If you are looking for a ghost story, there are some ghosts-of-our-past floating around; perhaps Tuesday is talking to the spirit of her dead-best-friend from when they were sixteen and there are a pair of aviation goggles that just might help the living see the dearly departed. If you are looking for a mystery, there are some mistaken identities, people who are not who they seem and people searching for who they are. If you are looking for puns the billionaire’s name was Vincent Pryce. If you are looking for some classical influence, said Mr. Pryce was a fan of Edgar Allan Poe himself. Do you like drunken karaoke nights? Lovely drag-queen Cher’s and Madonna’s? Do you want a kooky adventure with knights, coffins and the back half of a horse? Then Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts just might be something you want to take off the nightstand and put it in your hands to start reading.
