CBR11Bingo – Illustrated
I love One Punch Man so much. If you haven’t read this before or seen the show on Netflix or Hulu, I highly recommend it. I don’t laugh aloud at books or tv shows very much, but both the comic here and the tv show leave me rolling.
The set up is what it sounds like: a mysterious new hero arrives in the city and has the power to kill any monster, foe, enemy, adversary no matter how big or strong in a single punch. And this instills in him a despairing case of ennui.
The tone of this series is deeply sardonic, but also oddly sweet and detached. There’s more going on than a simple battle of the week kind of thing. The city itself is home to a Heroes Guild in which members fall along a series of ranks and order competing for the top spot. As the series progress, Saitama (One Punch Man) comes across to the guild as a threat and a joke at the same time while slowly and almost accidentally making his way up the ranks.
The art in the show and the comics as does some major lifting. Every single anime and Manga trope you could imagine shows up in the art styling, which shifts around depending on the heroes and villains on stage, while Saitama goes back and between a serious style with fine detail and basically an egg head with a face on it. I honestly can’t recommend this more.
