This book has singlehandedly put me behind on my reviews by about two months. Thanks, book! Also, I’m blaming the book but it’s totally me. Obviously.
I’m not sure I will actually be continuing this series. If not for my OCD (legit), and my “I might die if I don’t finish a book series” compulsion, or whatever the hell, I know I would have written it off already. It is too dark and scary for my poor brain right now, and the angel thing isn’t really all that up my alley if you know what I mean, even if I find it sort of morbidly fascinating the way that Ee is handling it. And boy howdy, if you were squicked by the age difference between Bella and Edward, or Buffy and Angel, or whoever else ancient magical being and young nubile woman, you’re really going to be squicked by the relationship between Penryn (who is in her late teens, I think she might be eighteen?) and Raffe (aka Raphael), the ANCIENT COSMOLOGICAL BEING. In the book’s defense though, it just sort of embraces all darkness, so the weirdness fits, even if it’s still very weird.
I feel like, though, it will make my brain feel better to finish, and I’ve already made it through two books, what’s one more? I guess we’ll see.
The one thing I liked unreservedly is Penryn’s sword, which used to be Raffe’s. She’s got this contrarian thing going on that is really most evident in the way she’s just taken over that angel sword like it’s hers no question, and uses it to bug the shit out of Raffe (and also be a badass). She names it Pooky Bear. I’m so into that, honestly.

So my rating on this is entirely based on my personal preferences. I still think this might objectively be pretty great, but I’m not capable of distinguishing. But hey, all three books are currently on Kindle Unlimited.
