Let the Whole Earth Sing Praise is based on the Canticle of the Three Young Men or the Benedicite from the Book of Daniel and Psalm 148. Tomie dePaola has created a poem inspired by these Old 
Testament Scriptures but has a modern voice that only he could do.
While the art does not immediately say “Tomie” it does have elements of his signature style. The fact it is also based on “embroideries and designs of the Otomi people from the mountain villages around San Pablito, in Puebla, Mexico” is a nice touch. However, I only got that from the publisher description and did not see it in the book (I might have missed that of course). Would make a nice baptismal gift, first communion, or other religious celebration gift.
The poem is not in the traditional form therefore, making it harder to just read. The text is floating along the page as if the words were being blown on the wind. However, it would work well in a Sunday school story-time, as the publisher description is: This joyous book sings thanks and praise for everything in land, sea, and sky-from the sun and moon to plants and animals to all people, young and old.
It is a lovely book that works in most formats. A small board book would not be its best format, but a larger lap sized one would work best. Yet, due to the images, poetic feel and theme, it is best in this hardcover size.
