I added this to my list after reading Shmecky87’s review earlier this year. It was SO GOOD. I read during breakfast, I read through my lunch break, I read through breaks and way past bedtimes. It starts off light, a quick and easy read, and then it just grips you and doesn’t let go.
It starts off a little eye-rolly. I wasn’t going to read first-person dude stories anymore, but Nolan grew on me pretty quickly. He and his small band of YouTubers have a web show (The Anomaly Files) about creepy and/or unexplained things. They never find anything, but they enjoy the hunt, and have just enough of an audience to keep them going. And perhaps a new sponsor that would let them make the jump to television! But the new sponsor insists that their representative goes along on the next taping, plus there’s a skeptical reporter, so everybody starts out a little annoyed. Their quest is to find a cave in the Grand Canyon, written about by early explorers but never rediscovered.
They film, they quip, they climb…and they find something. I’m not saying any more, because I had no idea what to expect and had no idea where the story would go, and it was delightful and bonkers. I’m off to find whatever else this author has written! (Shmecky87, did you know there was a sequel??)
