This is Book number four in the John Rain series. John’s last job didn’t go so smoothly, and he almost died in Hong Kong. He’s also now working for the Mossad, and kinda sorta working with his sometimes girlfriend Delilah. He gets hired to eliminate a target in Manila, and after tailing the man for a while, realizes that he has a family. For some reason the kid’s face flashes before John’s eyes when he’s about to kill the man, and he can’t do it.
There’s a big cluster, and eventually the Mossad wants John dead because of the muck up. He’s having trouble believing that his partner Dox is actually on his side, because he’s never had anyone he could count on before. He’s also having lots of conflicting thoughts about his profession, and how he might be able to get out of it.
John comes out alright in the end, but I think he’s a changed person after this set of missions.

This is book number five in the John Rain series. One of John’s former friends / coworkers / mentors lets John know that the previous love of his life Midori has been quietly raising his son that he knew nothing about. He decides that even though its dangerous for all of them, he needs to go see her and his son. Midori was originally told that John died, then they met up again, and their baby was conceived (unbeknownst to John).
Because of who John is, Midori and their son are under surveillance by John’s enemies. He reluctantly enlists the help of his mentor / friend Tatsu, who is also dying of cancer, and occasionally his partner Dox. He’s trying to protect Midori and his son forever, while struggling to decide the direction of the rest of his life, as he’s kinda in love with two women at once. That’s actually deadlier thank being an assassin…
