I wrote a review of this book and then the site locked me out and erased it and anyway here’s a quick rundown.
I find this book kind of the worst of internet book culture. It’s a cobbled together pinterest board of ideas about books that chances are pretty much everyone on this site likely would agree with but none of us would be so arrogant at to feel like we should get paid for it and claim credit for it.
Worst, this book consistently quotes a better (but not particularly great) book about reading while stating everything in that book in less interesting or endearing ways.
Instead, this book feels like it might otherwise be called Books!tm. I don’t need to be told why I like books, and neither do you. Chances are if you landed here, you already know a thing or two about them. So who is this book even for? It’s for the author of course, a way to further monetize and book blog. So pardon my annoyance and cutting attitude, but it seems oddly cynical to me to put together a collection of quotes and conventional wisdom or ideas on books and feel entitled to get paid for it.
This gets 2 stars instead of 1 star mostly because I am annoyed that I mostly agreed with what I read here, but that kind of just made me madder because of course I did! That was the point. What a weird little angry diversion this book represents for me.
