Well, I just loved this book. The title and subtitle pretty much tell you what it’s about, but I do want to take a minute to impress upon you guys the one thing I didn’t realize until I read it: this book is for practically everyone. As a homeschool mom, I thought this might be a dry but useful book that would help me grow as an educator, but oh no. Are you a student of anything? Any age, any topic? Are you educating anyone on anything? Do you have kids who are learning anything, whose education you’re invested in? Do you have any hobbies that involve knowledge acquisition of any kind? Sports, involving any kind of physical skill? Tennis? Golf? Basketball? Learning a new language? Learning to play an instrument? Becoming proficient in a certain topic?
Then How We Learn is for you! It’s a super easy read that still does a great job of getting into nitty gritty research specifics if you care, while remaining accessible enough to not put off people who don’t. It breaks down how to study for tests, how to write tests, when to take tests over the course of a semester, when to begin studying for an upcoming test, how to develop new skills, what kind of environment to study in, how to memorize large volumes of information…it covers a lot. My poor husband had to study for several tests right after he read this, and let me tell you I was up his ass with the study tips. He did great, though.
