This is the third book in the Lunar Chronicles series. At the end of the last book, we got the whole gang together (Cinder, Thorn, Scarlet, and Wolf) to try and overthrow Queen Levana. They decided to enlist the help of the queen’s own hacker named Cress. Cinder and Thorn are most wanted fugitives, so they need all the help they can get.
They find out about Cress, who is trapped in a satellite and under the thumb of Levana’s thomiturge (literally no clud how to spell that) Sybil. There’s an ill-fated rescue attempt, and they all get separated, some of them with dire consequences.
They travel through Africa, to Luna and back, all in an effort to save the world. We find out secrets about Thorn’s past, more information about where Cress came from, who the doctor who’s helping them all really is, more about Scarlet’s family, and how Cinder is related to it all.
I liked this book. It gave me a deeper dive into the characters. It showed that none of them are perfect, but they’re all human (even the ones who aren’t 100% human). There’s a sense of shared struggle and shared purpose between all of the “good” characters. Oh yeah, and Cress is supposed to be the modern Rapunzel. She starts out locked in a satellite with impossibly long hair, and ends up with new friends, a new haircut, and a new mission to save the world. They all find their strengths along the journey, and I’m excited to read the next book Winter, about Princess Winter and (I’m guessing) an epic battle between the gang and Levana.
