So I originally picked this book last year for CBR bingo. I didn’t get around to it in time though, so I read it this year as my fifth book of the year.
We start out with reporter Diana Marcum (the author, duh) kind of floating through life. She’s not having fun or loving her life. She’s not entirely happy in her career either.
She somehow stumbles across a group of immigrants living in California. They came from a set of islands in the Atlantic Ocean called the Azores. Their main language is Portuguese.
The immigrants tell her about the islands and talk her into visiting. They seem extremely beautiful, and this book had me googling the crap out of them.
Here are just a few shots:

Diana eventually makes it to the islands, and she falls in love with them. She makes friends with tons of people who live there, and tons of immigrants who left. It seems like a slow lifestyle with a lot of celebration and farming and fun. Diana goes back home, and heads back to the islands multiple times. She brings her new dog eventually, and he gets into trouble.
This book is not my normal type of book. I’m used to murder, mystery, science fiction, all stuff along those lines. I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. I think it’s because it’s not my type of story. She talks a lot about people and her trips and her life, but I kinda felt like nothing ever happened. I might get back on Google and check out flights though!
