The Little Rabbit is another story of a little girl using her imagination. Been there, done that before. I did not find anything really new in Nicola Killen’s picture book.
However, their illustrations are nicely done. The minimal colors make this different from a story that is “in your face” text and “in your face” bold illustrations. But at the same time, this too has been done before. I probably would have enjoyed this a lot more if I had read it before reading a lot of similar stories.
When I am not a fan of a book I try and research what other titles an author has done. Sometimes I learn that this was a fluke and I have enjoyed other books by them and sometimes I learn that this author and I just will not be “reading friends” and I know that I probably will not be reading other books. Yet, it is an experience.
If you are looking for a book that has a classic feel and would be a fun story time reading, this would be it. A child might not be grabbed by the illustrations but they most likely will relate to the fact that young Ollie and their toy rabbit have magical adventures. This is a modern-day Christopher Robin and Winnie-the-Pooh. The only difference is that with Pooh Bear he is a live from the start and her the toy rabbit starts off as a toy, has their adventures, but goes back to a toy.
Hopefully soon, you will be able to enjoy this in French, Le Petit Lapin Magique. But in the meantime you can find The Little Reindeer (or Le Petit Renne de No).
