But- this is a book of crochet patterns! Can you really have read this book?
The answer here is a resounding yes, because none of my attempts at making these animals is turning out right! I have read this entire thing several times and it has not seemed to help much. I so far have a lamb that looks a bit horse-like, and a cat that looks like a fox, and now a Dorset sheep that is near completion and looks closest to the pictures out of all three attempts.
Did you know that the nomenclature of stitches is different in the US vs UK? I do, having now read this book multiple times over a two-week period. I also now know that my cat/fox is a selfie-obsessed teenager because the author has whimsical little backstories for all of the designs.
She also mentioned in the book that she grew up on an alpaca farm but only realized in adulthood that alpaca wool could be made in to yarn or textiles. This led me down an internet search hole, trying to figure out what else would prompt someone to keep a farm full of alpacas. This book has left me with more questions than answers. I would be more interested in trouble-shooting tips than in knowing that the basic sheep is meant to live a wild bachelor’s life after hours in his dentistry practice. I don’t yet have one project I’d be willing to give away without a deep sense of shame. It may be back to baby blankets for me.
