Maybe I like these books because for the most part I read in snippets – on the train, at lunch, on the train again, while my fiance plays FIFA. A lot of my day to day reading gets done in ten to fifteen minute bursts and basically any book I’ve picked up by Sarah J. Maas really suits that lifestyle. The writing is fairly simple and their plots are convoluted without being particularly complex. The mothership once described the modern Nikita as being the perfect gym show because it was exciting and entertaining without requiring all of your attention. In that same vein, the Throne of Glass series is the perfect commuter series.
Will they still count towards my cannonball if I don’t actually review the books themselves? It feels more like every couple of weeks I get to come here and spend 250 words analyzing myself, my state of mind, and my life in relation to these very seriously not-good books and that may actually be more productive than any review. Does it matter that the beautiful, perfect assassin continues to be more beautiful and perfect than anyone any time anywhere? No, it really doesn’t. Does it matter that I take breathing room in the middle of a hectic workday to better understand myself and my day-to-day worldview? Arguably, yes. Maybe. To me, at least.
So yes, I am putting myself through a full reread, so look for more self analysis and serious navel-gazing to accompany book three … sometime. Soon. Ish.
