I was scrolling through Twitter one day last week and happened on an author (@mel_thegreat) live tweeting her read of a romance novella by Suleikha Snyder (@suleikhasnyder), another romance writer I follow. I follow a lot of authors on twitter, and a large subset of those authors write romance. They are delightful. But back to the thread. I had seen the book advertised on Amazon for $.99, but hadn’t been motivated enough to buy it. Mel’s enthusiasm for the book and the bits of language she tweeted convinced me to go get it.
He’s the bad-boy biker. She’s the good girl working in her family’s Indian restaurant. On the surface, nothing about Trucker Carrigan and Pinky Grover’s instant, incendiary, attraction makes sense. But when they peel away the layers and the assumptions–and their clothes–everything falls into place. The need. The want. The light. The laughter. They have more in common than they ever could’ve guessed. Is it enough? They won’t know until they take a chance on each other–and on love.
After I read and enjoyed the novella, I found out it was inspired by this bearded Chris Evans photo. And I was not surprised. This photo brought me much needed joy during the dark days of 2018.
So now you know where “He looked like heroism and hedonism’s beautiful bastard.” comes from.
The story is short, but Snyder packs in a lot with just a few words. I’ve been reading romance for a long time. At this point I’m a lot more interested in the characters and story than I am in the sex scenes. Most sex scenes, even the ones with exotic sexual positions and practices, are boring. Snyder is now on my short list of authors who write an interesting sex scene that reveals the characters and builds their relationship beyond sexual prowess and compatibility. I’m not going to quote any examples of the sex scenes, but I did enjoy this moment of Pinky’s mental musings.
And I’d had no idea that there was an overlap in the motorcycle club and vegan communities. Who knew? Were there entire vegan motorcycle clubs? Did they wear vegan leather jackets?
It’s $.99 and a fun, fast read with steamy sex. I was only sorry that I didn’t have any samosa on hand.
