cbr10bingo… Alabama Pink

I listened to this book, which I think is the optimal way to read it. It wasn’t narrated by Chelsea, but the narrator was good. I read this for cbr10bingo, and it was my Alabama Pink choice. I remember when CBR first started, and I thought “there’s no way I can read that many books”, and now I’m on my fourth CBR and kicking ass. I love it. Bingo is a new and exciting twist this year that’s just making me want to read more!
Anyway (I bet “anyway” is the most used word in my reviews), I wanted to laugh more at this book. There were some really funny moments, but overall I wasn’t that impressed. It probably didn’t help that I think Chelsea Handler is kind of an asshole, so I may have been biased going in.
I’m a big fan of female empowerment, and that includes sex. I think one night stands are great if everyone involved wants them! I’m not a prude, and I like sex stories. I just didn’t think these were as funny as I wanted them to be. The parts about her family were HILARIOUS. I would’ve loved an entire book about her immigrant mother who likes to nap and doesn’t cook well, and her wannabe car salesman father who thinks she has a “nice figure” but wants Chelsea to stop sleeping around, or her brother who thinks Chelsea getting her father angry is the best thing ever. Those topics were so funny. I also liked hearing about her roommate Dumb Dumb.
I guess I just didn’t like Chelsea as a person. She sounded like one of those friends I’d hate after going out with twice. Maybe it’s because I’m now an old lady in my late 30’s, and this book is all about her 20’s, but most of the things she did sounded not fun.
So, this is a quick read, and it’s entertaining, but like I said, not as funny as I wanted it to be!
