This is Two Heads Are Better Than One review. The below review is from our website from one of the staff members who liked it. I have to admit, this could have easily been my cover book. However, even with the really cool and nifty cover and awesome title I probably still if had not be for Sarah K. tell me that she, Sarah D. and Tambra loved this book. This review is from Tabmra.
“I hope that I am as feisty, but perhaps not as murderous, as Maud when I am in my 80s! This marvelous collection of dark yet hysterically funny short stories by the famed Swedish crime author, are about a curmudgeonly senior and how she deals with the problems in her life. It is just what one needs to curl up with (along with a strong cup of tea) at bedtime. You will love it!”
An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good by Helene Tursten is very tiny physically but packs a punch. I hope I am half as feisty as Maud is now I am in my forties. Heck with my 80s! She does have a very interesting way of getting rid of problems. Murder is a bit extreme, however, it does get the job done nicely! Maud reminds me of several characters in other books I have read. She feels entitled as many from an upper-lifestyle feel is their right. You are pretty sure how she takes care of her sister (the same way she took care of the man abusing his wife, the antiques dealer, a gold-digging fiancé of an ex-lover …) but one does wonder about her parents.
I absolutely was convinced it would be a sweet book, but not very good as it is translated by Marlaine Delargy (and while I am sure she is a great translator, translations and me are very rarely good friends). I know I will be getting copies for a few friends and family members and think I might not give up my readers copy just yet. I might pick up a few more ideas…. I mean have another lovely reading in the park day.
