Wherein I review:
119. The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker
120. Serpentine (Anita Blake #26) by Laurell K. Hamilton
121. The Sellout by Paul Beatty
122. Turtles All The Way Down by John Green
123. Sweet Lamb of Heaven by Lydia Millet
124. Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames
125. The Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp
Helene Wecker gives us a historical love story between two servant myths. Laurell K. Hamilton comes back and sets Anita Blake against every sh–ty person she could find. Paul Beatty does Russell Simmons Def Candide Jam in a brilliantly scathing satire. John Green writes a John Green about mental illness that touches pretty close to home. Got two unreliable narrators in essentially horror stories where I get Blair Witched and love it by Jason Arnopp and get sold a bill of goods that I don’t so much love by Lydia Millet. And then, if I had six stars, I’d give it to Nicholas Eames, who does what’s essentially Old Man’s War meets Rat Queens. It is the D&D story you’ve always wanted if you were me.
