I loved this book! A fantastic suspense novel that kept me enthralled, curious, engaged and completely surprised.
The pace of the book was perfect, drip feeding clues and slowly revealing more information. An excellent balance between the main crime and building characters, back stories, more mysteries and intriguing characters.
The story follows the finding of a rich girl, Andrea, murdered and found underneath a frozen lake. We are introduced to the main detective Erika Foster as she returns to work and is put on the lead of this case. We look into Andrea’s family as well as her fiancé and discover the secrets being kept from each other. Erika seems to have her own battles, as well as battles within her team. Andrea leads a double life which her family seem to turn a blind eye to.
Normally I am against your stereotypical characters, and this book certainly skated into that field; the detective returning to work with issues, the rich family with the dysfunctional marriage with the three kids – party girl, kooky girl and nerdy brother. As well as your ‘in fighting’ with the police. Linda (the kooky sister) is a particularly entertaining sister, I enjoyed getting to know her better throughout the novel.
Nevertheless, the characters are all important to the story and are necessary for developing the plot and intrigue.
I am giving this novel 4 stars, I will be checking out more of Robert’s work as I’m curious to see how our main detective – Erika Foster, builds as a character.
