Anna Dewdney’s beloved Llama Llama is back. Unfortunately, while the tone of Dewdney is still here, Llama Llama Loves to Read is one of the first books done after her death. Reed Duncan (Dewdney’s partner) is now creating the tale of our Llama hero. This time Llama cannot wait to tell Mama Llama how much he has learn about becoming a reader!
The things the Llama Llama’s teacher shows him, the library, reading to him and the class, showing how to do their letters, are all things your child will show them. Therefore, this might be a fun before you start pre-school or even kindergarten book.
Everything we loved about Llama is still here, the bright colors, the brashness of Llama and how Llama mimics our own children. A good read aloud for your child, for the classroom or in the library itself.
Dewdney was a prolific writer. You can read her other books once you have read all the llama books, such as Nelly Gnu and Daddy too. Or Grumpy Gloria. Or even a story about a Little Excavator. And currently they are beginning readers like Llama Llama Loses a Tooth which allows your child to grow along with Llama on his adventures. There are also books that are companion books to the Netflix animated series as well, such as Llama Llama Learns to Swim.
I do have a special place for Dewdney in my heart as we here in Vermont claimed her and always enjoyed hearing that a new adventure was coming out by her.
