I think I downloaded this book a long time ago and somehow forgot about it? I have so many Kindle books that I lose track of them regularly. I think that’s probably a good problem to have.
The way we start this story is from the perspective of a would be (and previous) rapist. He’s eyeing up his next target at a bar, and she seems like a sure thing. The whole time I was reading it, I was thinking “Holy crap, this better get flipped and she’s OK”, or something along those lines, probably with more profanity.
The next chapter, we get the flip, and things just get better from there. If you thought things would get less intense and less squicky, you’d be wrong. We get a reprieve at the beginning, but there is no letting up for the most of the rest of the book.
I like Livia as a character, but she’s definitely not your typical heroine. She’s a sex crimes cop, a former foster child, a Judo champion, and kinda a sexy rapist murderer. Like I said – not your typical heroine.
This is book one in a two book series. Thankfully (and like seriously un-thankfully) we get a lot of background into Livia’s former life. It’s kinda ok for the first twelve or thirteen years, then soooo sooo bad for the next five or six years. There are some real heroes too. Without giving too much away, there are a few men and boys who help her and/or support her along the way. There are so many that let her down in really big and terrible ways though. This book is not for the squeamish, and if you have pedophilia triggers – stay far away.
