This is the final book in the Gideon and Sirius series. As I noted in my earlier G&S reviews, I love Sirius. Obviously he’s my favorite character. Gideon is OK, especially because of the way he treats all dogs.
I don’t remember how this book actually started, but the action really began one night when Sirius heard a dog outside in trouble. Sirius woke up Gideon and basically dragged him outside to see what was wrong with the dog. She had been attacked by a pack of coyotes, and it look like she had been traveling for a long time.
In the morning G&S start to look for the owner of the dog. This begins a whole new case because they think the owner is missing. They find out that the missing pup’s name is Angie. She’s a bloodhound, and constantly trying to sniff out her owner. Gideon really believes that her abusive ex husband kidnapped her, or was in some way involved.
There’s also a side story (like all the G&S books) about a man who lost his son to gun violence, and the support group he founded. Of course this man ends up dead under mysterious circumstances, and G&S have another case.
I’m sure it can be said that these books are a bit formulaic, but I liked them nonetheless. Anyone who treats and treats along with dogs as well as Gideon is A+ in my book! I’m a little disappointed that there aren’t any more G&S books, because the story seems a bit unfinished. I’m not sure if Gideon gets over his fire dreams, if he stays with his girlfriend, or if the Weatherman gets put to death. I know one thing for sure though – Sirius is doing fine! 3.5 stars
