Sarah Anderson is a genius! And Big Mushy Happy Lump (Sarah’s Scribbles #2) is proof of that. As with Adulthood is a Myth and Herding Cats, she mixes humor and seriousness into the life and trials of being Sarah (a young woman going through her twenties and thirties). However, teens can see themselves and forty-somethings, too. Be it our past, present or even future. She cleverly shows us the way of the world (self-esteem issues, love of cats, boyfriends, being cold, clothes, being a woman and so much more).
Sarah knows how to poke fun at herself, yet knows that by sharing her problems, loves, wins and losses she knows her readers will possibly not feel as alone. And get a good laugh, too. Sarah’s Scribbles #2 is a little more serious at times than Sarah’s Scribbles #1, but she balances the humor and serious well.

I know if I ever meet Ms. Anderson I will totally fan girl. I cannot say enough about how awesome she is. (Did I mention she is a genius?) Her illustrations are not “polished” yet that does not matter. I have interpreted that to mean, nothing truly is polished. They are realistic but cartoon. This combination allows her point to come across. There is little extra or “unneeded” items in them. Amazon reviewer has described them as “casually drawn” and that fits her style perfectly.
So grab your copy and huddle up under your blankets, shut out reality and binge on the artist who told us it is okay to be a Big Mushy Happy Lump!
