I picked up this book while out and about shopping as I tend to have a bit of a book buying problem. Why is it a problem you may ask, you can never have too many books! Well, that is all well and good if you actually read them and aren’t just purchasing books that sit all sad and lonely on the shelf waiting to be read. I am hoping that being back on the CBR train will help me read all those books and then I can go shopping for more!
I love having physical copies of books around, but I also really love my ebooks as they are more versatile and I can even read them in a slow moment at work. “How to Stop Time” was actually so good that I had to bust out one of my old reading tricks so that I could read it at work. If management is reading this, it is very slow and I was catching up on old missed breaks. For those of you who want to know my trick, it isn’t all that clever or anything, I just take photos of the book and read them on my laptop. I am a special kind of nerd eh!
So I suppose you might want to hear a bit about the book, I was hoping if I rambled on long enough that I wouldn’t have to write a review, that it might just come out in the rambling, but that didn’t happen so here it goes. “How to Stop Time” is a sweet little tale of a man who lives a very long time. He has a medical condition that causes extremely slow ageing and the book tells the story of most of his life, jumping back and forth in time from various points in history up until the present day. There is a bit of a romance angle, lost love and blocking your heart from future love are large themes at play.
I found it to be a heck of a page turner, and once I really got going on reading it I was finished quite fast. I have already reserved the ebook of Mr. Haig’s called “The Humans” and I think I will read it next. Mr. Haig has also written a memoir called “Reasons to Stay Alive” which is about his life with major depressive disorder, and you better believe that I bought me a copy of that one, it arrives soon and I am sure not to let that one sit on the shelf.
