Ok so this was book one in a series that I of course started at book three! I liked the characters from boom three, so I decided to start the series from the beginning. So far, I think there are three or four books.
Our intrepid British detectives are faced with a gruesome murder that looks a lot like one committed a few decades ago. Then a man comes forward claiming to have committed the murder, and he also believes he’s the son of the woman who committed the murder years ago. Unfortunately for the detectives, he doesn’t seem murdery enough. The man’s girlfriend is convinced he didn’t murder anyone, but she agrees he needs help. They enlist a prominent psychologist to determine what’s going on. This doc has a history with Marie (she basically saved his life from a really bad guy). Anyway, the rest of the story is the detectives and the guy who claimed to murder the woman trying to figure out wtf is going on. Oh and other ladies get murdered too.
Like I said earlier, I like the characters in this series. The story is good, but I feel like maybe the author relies a bit too much on being twisty. I’m all in on a big twist, but sometimes the ending (in this book and the last one) seems a little far fetched. I guess all of the stories get wrapped up nicely, but it feels a tiny bit cheap.
Anyway, I started book two, and I like it so far, so I guess I still like these books!
