I loved this book! I was just feeling lost and didn’t connect with any of the books I was trying to read, so I looked at what was available on the library website, and checked this one out.
The Solar family was cursed by Death. Every member of the family has one great fear, and that fear will be the thing that kills them. Esther started her Semi-Definitive List of Worst Fears because of the curse. She writes down anything that scares her even a little, avoids that thing, and it can never become her great fear.
One day while waiting for the bus, Esther encounters her old friend Jonah. He then cons her out of her newly earned money, cell phone, antique bracelet, list, and fruit roll up. This is the start of their romance. Jonah persuades Esther to go through her list and conquer the fears one by one. Every Sunday they go out and face her fears, with Jonah filming the whole thing. The book is cute and quirky and fun and incredibly dark and difficult, and I loved it.
