I think I found this book searching through my library’s Overdrive app. It’s an app where you can download ebooks or audiobooks to borrow, and then read them on your Kindle or phone, or listen to them on your phone. It’s a great app. I guess I found this book a while ago, because I had a hold on it, and it all of a sudden became available and I downloaded it to my Kindle.
This was one of those books where I had to force myself to stop reading and go to bed. I finished it last night after 11PM, and I’m usually sleeping by 10. There’s action, but not too much, heartache, a tiny bit of romance, suspense, and some feel good stuff too. It apparently hit all of my buttons. I’m not sure I remember the last book I rated 5 stars 🙂
We start out this story 28 years in the past. Two sisters (Charlotte and Samantha, or Charlie and Sam) are practicing running track at their house, and interacting with their sort of odd mother. All three (the two girls and their mother) are very smart and beautiful, but their smarts are the more important part of those two. The girls’ father Rusty is a defense lawyer, and he’s got some enemies. Their house had just been burnt down, and they had to move to a farmhouse in the country. We get a not very detailed account of a horrific event that changes all of their lives, and then we fast forward 28 years to the present. I don’t want to give anything more away, because it’s a good story.
I felt like all of the character in this book were actual three dimensional people. Nobody felt like a parody or a caricature. And like I said earlier, it was suspenseful. I knew something was up with some parts of the stories, but I didn’t guess what exactly. I totally recommend this book!
