So spoiler alert, there’s an awesome dog in this book, and he doesn’t die! To me, that is very important information to have when reading a book. If it’s not important to you, then I really don’t want to know you 😁. A dog dying in a book really sours the whole experience for me.
This book is about a serial killer and rapist who everyone thinks is dead. However, obviously he’s not. His last victim survived months and months of rape and torture. She was also pregnant during it all. On the last day of her captivity he set her free so he could hunt her. He armed her so it would be a fair hunt. Somehow she wounded him and barely got away. She survives for a while, and then on her way to kill herself, she rescued a dog from the side of the road. He was in pretty bad shape too. They make a pretty sorry pair.
After surviving for a few years, and the guy everyone thought was the killer dying, she changed her name to Olivia and moved to an isolated ranch. She basically starts a new life on the ranch. Ace, her dog is her best friend, and obviously my favorite character. The patriarch and owner of the rach is dying so Olivia calls his estranged son to come back and make some medical decisions.
I read through a bunch of reviews on Goodreads (like as soon as Ace was introduced) to see if Ace died in the book. I ended up seeing a lot of people calling this book a romance thriller, or something along those lines. Let me debunk that. There is a romance, but the top story by far is the murder mystery, and the stalking and the cop trying to figure it all out. I liked it a lot, and I’d totally recommend it to suspense / murder mystery fans.
