Ugh, this book was gross. It’s just so mean and hateful, like a rabid squirrel. The outside may seem cheerful and harmless, but get to know it and it’ll bite you.
It’s the story of a girl named Anna who is fat. Being fat is the worst thing ever, obviously. After her parents divorce, Anna moves away from her home in Ohio to New York. She gets a job with a caterer, who she refers to as MFG (My Fairy Godmother), who helps her lose weight by making her walk a lot and getting restaurants not to sell her food.
After losing the weight, Anna can finally find a man! She meets Ben, who is very handsome and attractive. Their relationship begins with her lying about her family and pretending to be a vegetarian. Eventually, Anna becomes so obsessed with keeping Ben around and so convinced that she isn’t enough for him that she has to mess him up a bit. Here comes the makedown.
I would feel bad for Anna, but she was kind of gross. I did feel bad for Ben, but he was pretty boring. The one who really deserves sympathy is me, because I read it. After a while, it got to be too much and I gave up, though I did skim through the end. The only question left is what to do with my copy. I could donate it to Goodwill or a Little Free Library, but do I want to unleash it on the world like that? Burning seems a little excessive. I guess I’m stuck with it for now.
You can read my full review here. But don’t read this book.
