I have 9 reviews that I need to post, so forgive me if some of them are on the briefer side!
This Bill Bryson book is a collection of newspaper articles that spanned several years in the nineties. Basically, Bryson went to go live in England for 20 years and when he came back he was slightly startled to see changes — not only how much America was different from England, but also how it had changed in the years that he’d been gone. So he got a job offer to write about it.
Most of these entries are two or three pages long, just observations on daily life. Some of them are funny, but most of them are a little outdated and a little dull. It’s very Reader’s Digest — definitely not the snarky humor that I came to expect after reading two of his other books. But of course it would have to be cleaned up to be published for a wide audience. He does make some funny observations and it’s definitely a quick read, but not what I was hoping for from this particular writer.
