Dan Piper was driving home from a conference one day when he was on a narrow bridge. It was on this bridge that his life was forever changed. A semi crossed the center line and hit his car. His car was run over, and the edge of the bridge prevented his car from going off the road. He was immediately declared dead when the first responders came to his help shortly after, they could find no pulse and his car was so mangled that they were not easily able to get him out. Since there were other victims in the accident, they covered his car with a sheet and went to their aid. For ninety minutes, Don is in heaven. Seeing family and friends that have passed on. Ninety minutes after being declared dead, a baptist preacher arrives and prays over Don’s body. He is the first to realize that Don is alive and immediately calls out to the paramedics to come help. They at first do not believe him, as they had declared Don dead earlier, but when they get closer and see him moving, they immediately begin to use the jaws of life to get Don out of the car.
Don has a long path ahead of him as he has many broken bones, and many injuries that are not immediately recognized as doctors focus first on the larger problems that they see. He details his experience in heaven and his recovery.
His description of heaven is much different from other versions that I have read (Heaven is for Real and Miracles from Heaven) but these descriptions both came from children. Also included in the copy that I read are letters from readers of his book and their experiences before and after reading the book.
