So this is my second kidnapping book of the month. What does that say about me? It can’t be anything good! Actually I think I had this book on my Kindle since last year. I have a tendency to download lots of samples of Kindle books, so sometimes I lose track of the real books I have downloaded.
Anyway… I liked this book. I guess anything with a suspenseful plot keeps me interested. The gist of the story is this: a girl got kidnapped with her friend over a year ago, she escaped, the friend didn’t make it, and she feels guilty . Also, the guy was never caught. She basically hermitted herself, dropped out of school, and learned to defend herself. The guilt was unbearable though.
She (Zoe – with an umlat – I’m going to skip that detail because I don’t know how to put it in) sees a newscast of a new murder, & recognizes “her” bad guy’s MO. It scares her, but also excites her.
Zoe wants to confront the man that kidnapped her and her friend. She tries to retrace their journey just prior to getting snatched . She’s got some friendly / supportive cops & a therapist to help her out. I won’t spoil the ending, because it’s kinda fun.
The one thing I like about the bad guy is his respect for animals. He works at an animal rescue (as the accountant). He targets a woman to torture and kill because she torments animals. I was totally with him on that one. He also kinda falls in love with a former fighting dog that got rescued. Some people might not agree with how he uses the dog as a weapon, but I fully approved of him getting revenge on the ringleader of the dog fighting racket.
