This is the 13th and final installment in the Southern Vampire Mystery Series, aka, the True Blood books. Sometimes, you finish a series and you are left wanting more. This was not one of those times.
These have been my beach books, my brain candy, and I have enjoyed them for what they are, but the thrill was gone by the end of the book. After so long in Sookie’s world the characters have become predictable, as have the plot lines. Or, when there is a surprise it feels forced but you just sort of shrug about it and move on.
Our protagonist finds herself in danger, again, and her Scooby gang shows up to help. Hijinks (and death) ensues. But the action packs more of a shoulder pat than a true punch, because Harris never really lets anything of consequence transpire to main characters.
Would I recommend this series to others? Certainly. I’m packing up the full set to share because I think they are fun, but I know I will never revisit them.
Thanks to Harris for all the laughs, blood, and naughty bits.
