I knew this book would be great going in because it won both a Caldecott Honor and Printz Honor award, but I was still completely blown away. Definitely the most beautiful book I’ve read this year and maybe ever. I would hang so many of these panels up on my walls as standalone art. Not only is the art gobsmackingly stunning, the story is well written as well.
Rose and Windy spend every summer together when their families stay in cabins at a lake in Canada. This summer is a little different with the two of them being right on the cusp of adolescence. Because they’re a little closer to adulthood, they’re starting to notice the adult level drama swirling around them. They’re still kids having fun on vacation, but this summer is more than a little bittersweet.
Normally, I’d talk more than this about the book I’m reviewing. With artwork like this though, I figured I’d let it speak for itself.
