Well, I tried to finish this in time for the book club discussion (which I plan to read through today if possible!), but life and m’fing Peacock Emporium got in the way. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it, and while I can see why some people dinged it for certain things, I still felt it was a pretty good read overall.
“I wanted to come, and if I hadn’t, they would have been all alone, and nobody would have ever known how frightened and brave and irreplaceable they were.”
Do I…do I really need to explain the plot at this point?
What I liked: just about everything in Kivrin’s plot line, particularly the two little girls. Kivrin’s observations about the time period, especially when she noted all the things that they didn’t know. Williams Gaddson and his wonderful mother. Everything Colin did and said over the course of 550 pages.
Not so much: the endless phone calls searching for Basingame. The fact that I guessed the origin of the virus like, 200 pages before any of the pros. The ending, which is not so much Willis’s fault since it was a GOOD ending — it just made me sad.
Has anyone read the sequel? I just put it on hold at the library.
