I got these two audiobooks from the library. They’re book 1 and 2 of a 4 book series. I listened to the first one (Omega Days) on the 12 hour drive to SC for vacation. I listened to the second one (Ship of the Dead) on the drive back from vacation. So… it’s a little hard for me to remember what specifics happened in each book, so I’m reviewing them together!
So this zombie plague is more of an out of control virus thing, and we don’t really find out where it’s coming from. It just strikes all of a sudden. These first two books (WHICH ARE THE ONLY TWO THE LIBRARY HAS, I’LL HAVE TO BUY THE OTHER TWO!!!) take place all around California. My geography knowledge of CA is not great, so it could be a very small area. It’s Oakland, LA, Alameda, San Francisco, and probably some other places. Anyway, out of nowhere, people just start biting other people. You get to meet a bunch of different people or groups of people in the first few chapters, and then we follow them throughout. This is a zombie plague story, so there is a lot of biting and running and killing. What I really like about this series is that every once in a while, we get to know a teeny bit about the recently deceased and zombified people. It’s a cool little story tossed into the whole story.
So like I said, all of these people are spread throughout CA, and they’re travelling, looting, learning how to shoot, and trying to stay alive. Eventually most of them come together at an Air Force (or Navy?) base, and decide to board a giant air craft carrier that’s moored/crashed in the bay. Unfortunately, they have to clear it of the walking dead first. It’s super dark and claustrophobic, and a bunch of people get killed. In my opinion though, the core 6 original characters are still there, in varying degrees of themselves. I will definitely be reading the next 2 books in the series!
