I
don’t even know where to begin with this book. It’s got zombie presidents, people. Zombie Taft, Zombie Washington, Zombie Roosevelts, you get the picture. There’s also the ghost of Ben Franklin, being a creepy perv ghost that we all knew he’d be too.
Also, chimichangas!
So due to the poor PR of Captain America decapitating a dead zombie president, SHIELD has to call in some less than stellar hero to take care of the walking dead presidents. Enter Deadpool, the merc with a mouth, and now his SHEILD handler’s (Emily Preston) biggest headache. (This was my first Deadpool experience, by the way, so if I screw up some random bit of canon, SORRYNOTSORRY.)
There’s definitely more to the story than just zombie presidents, including deals with devils and a flashback to the Bronze Age of comics. But, seriously, zombie presidents. Also! Zombie Nixon’s dog, Checkers too! Zombie Taft rides around in a floating bathtub in nothing but his birthday suit and a top hat. (Which probably is the most dignified way to remember a former president, but can you really think of anything else that happened during Taft’s presidency?)
Once you’ve seen Zombie Lincoln fight Deadpool in a cage match, you’d think you had seen everything. Then Emily Preston dies and gets her essence? soul? sucked into Deadpool’s mind, which has to be a carousel of horror. Once we have Preston knocking around in his cranium, we get to see a softer side of Deadpool and depth of character, the more human side of him that went through tons of experimentation to be the ugly avocado with healing powers that we all know and love now.
