I read the first Miss Peregrine book when it first came out and I really liked it. Though I’ve owned the second book for quite a while, I only now got around to reading it. In summary it was good, but the magic is gone.
Where the first book left off, the children were exiled from their home and trying to find a way to help Miss Peregrine, stuck in her bird form. Fleeing from their pursuers brought many trials as Jacob tries to help while facing his fate trapped in a different time and place.
Like the first novel, the book has haunting and strange photographs to accompany the story, which add a lot to the storytelling.
I don’t really have a beef with the story, but I just think I would have enjoyed it more if the first novel had just been stand alone. I had really been looking forward to the sequel but it meandered too much for me and I was left feeling a little disappointed, especially as the second book clearly sets up a third.
