Collision is part one of a new alien invasion trilogy from Berinn Rae. Sienna, an ex- military brat and recent widow stumbles upon a crashed ship near her remote home. Against her better judgement, she goes inside to investigate. She discovers a super hot human-like man (except for his unnatural golden skin) unconscious on floor. Another weird guy passed out who may be dead. She drags the golden man outside just before a crazy winged alien attacks. The two creatures point weird guns at each other with her caught in the middle. Lucky for Sienna, the golden skinned one saves her just before passing out again. She drags him onto her ATV and tends to his wounds at her house. She’s not completely stupid and ties him up on her bed before he comes to. They have an odd but interesting interrogation where she learns his name is Legian. He’s unsure of her motives and advises she just let him go and forget she ever saw him. She’s pretty damn certain he’s not from around this galaxy and contemplates what to do with him. Will he just shoot her and leave? But they did kinda save each other’s lives. Plus, theres’s a powerful undercurrent of attraction behind his eyes. Maybe it’s the adrenaline or his golden abs, but they end kissing each other. I mean, hot is hot, right?
After succumbing to their desires – it seems her husband has been gone awhile – matching tribal-esque tattoos appear over their bodies. Apparently, this is the mark of finding one’s soulmate for his people he informs her as a matter of fact. SAY WHAT. Needless to say she is mighty skeptical. According to him, his species mates once and for life, but rarely outside their own species (oops). Legian is ironclad certain that even though they only met two hours ago, she must his forever. Also, evil aliens are after her now.
Overnight, she reluctantly (but not that much as he’s super fine) leaves her whole life behind her. The next chapter is a few months in the future where we learn she moved into his people’s covert military installation. Turns out aliens are among us fighting a long and devastating civil war. Legian is a Sephian, a proud race that overthrew their fascist masters the Draeken, a race of winged creeps who want to take over the Earth. Sienna becomes an unlikely ally to the Sephian, using her ex-husband military contacts to negotiate first contact with the US government. Obviously, everything isn’t super peachy as the Sephian have been living here for months without telling anybody. But with the Draeken threat growing, they better put aside their alien-human differences before all hell breaks loose.
Collision was another quick and dirty read for Vaginal Fantasy. Only partial pecks on the cover, no abs but definitely a signal of serious sexy times. Also, I’m pretty sure Legian didn’t look like a surfer with bleach blonde hair. But romance covers are a somewhat unique artform. The true love premise was a bit ridiculous, especially when the author added a 3 month time jump right after they have sex. Like fast forward, they are like totally boinking nonstop while Legian’s military buddies give her the stink eye all the base They warm up to her eventually. But Sienna has to jump through a helluvalot of hoops to prove to them humans are not pathetic weaklings. I’ve considered reading the next book as my favorite minor character becomes the protagonist and [ending spoiler!] trapped behind enemy lines with a sexy Draeken.[/spoiler]. I’d recommend for fans of “Andromeda’ and alien-human romance tales.
