| First and foremost, I adore this series. Peter V. Brett created a richly beautiful world with a myriad of interesting and fascinating characters. The Daylight War is the third book (of five planned) in the Demon Cycle. I found the pacing a little slower than the previous books as a whole. The Daylight War delved deep into the personal relationships that formed during the previous two books. I think that Arlen grew the most in this book. He seems much more comfortable and complete as a character. His relationship with Renna changed him immensely. It certainly makes me feel as though heartbreak is eventually in store for one of them, though I offer no proof. I’m still not certain how I feel about Rojer. There are times that he is interesting but often I wonder what his purpose is or will be. Leesha also became more comfortable and confident with herself. This was a very welcome change from the insecurity she displayed previously. I liked that Inevera grew much more insecure. It really made her more complete. The trend is quite apparent. Peter V. Brett took a great deal of time to develop his characters and the result is that I am more excited for the next book than I was for this one. While the pacing may not be lively, the character development exceeds expectations and should satisfy fans of the series. I should also add that Mr. Brett sent me a free copy after I told him via Twitter that I read his first two books on my way home from my most recent deployment. He called it a welcome home present and earned the nickname of “my author” to my friends and family. |
