Awesome book – totally. First saw this at “Zombie Runner” coffee shop in Palo Alto on California Avenue….started to read it and had to have it.
Our WTZ is Angel Crawford – pill popping, high school drop out with a record. Lives in Louisiana with her drunk ass dad in a house with a driveway made of crushed beer cans. Hangs out with her stoner, trailer dwelling boyfriend Randy and works a McJob a the gas and grab. Until one night, she ends up going home from the bar with the wrong guy. Car accident and she dies, or she should have died… but she didn’t. Although she is a bit fuzzy on that part. Instead she wakes up in the hospital in perfect condition -with cryptic notes from an unknown benefactor and a cooler full of interesting “milk shakes” that seem to satisfy a very particular craving.
Gradually Angel starts to figure out that things are not quite the same as they used to be. She is unable to take drugs anymore, she heals fast, but she has this strange craving for those odd milkshakes and the lumpy grayish pink bits floating about in them….hmmm. Her mysterious benefactor also manages to get her a job – morgue technician – that seems too good to be true. Full time with benefits AND access to …uh….certain sources of sustenance.
Now that Angel is “sober” – turns out she is a clever little zombie. But there is trouble afoot! Murder most foul! And who exactly did this to her in the first place? Who is the Benefactor? Who is murdering other zombies? OMG! Get the book and find out – totally fun. There are three more – but this one is the best as it’s the first and the “origin story” which is always the best.
