Yeah… Well… This book exists.
As I was browsing through my favorite online bookshop I noticed this little gem of a title. After I giggled about it for a few minutes, I promptly forgot it existed. Luckily I received the book for Christmas, as proof that my friends do indeed know me well.
To answer your question, yes, the book is about baby Jesus butt-plugs, which is apparently also a legit sex toy. The plot involves a couple buying baby Jesus and despite it being frowned upon by society, using it as a butt plug. The baby Jesus then goes insane and things happen, like people copying themselves on copy machines, zombies and other random stuff, which made me question why I have this compulsive need to read anything with a stupid sounding title.
The book belongs to the “Bizarro” genre, which I’m not familiar with, however judging by Baby Jesus Butt Plug the main traits of the genre are throwing a bunch of random things together in the hope that people will be shocked and/or offended. While I’m all for zombies, butt plugs and other things being included all in one book and bizarreness is totally my thing, I would appreciate if it were at least connected into a semi-coherent story, which sadly is not the case with this book. To top it off, the writing style is not very good and makes the whole thing seem like it was written by a fifth grader.
There is some legitimate criticism of modern corporate society hidden in there, however it gets drowned in the bizarre things that the author seems to randomly put in. It would have been better had the author dedicated more pages to this aspect of the story.
Overall its not a book I would call good, however I quess it is worth a read for the people who like bizarreness. The main plus is that it’s only 104 pages long, so not a lot of time is wasted while reading it. It also looks good on your bookshelf and is a great conversation starter for guests, but thats about it.
