Category Six Adversarial Manifestation. That’s what it’s called when Lucifer Morningstar – also known as the Devil, the Prince of Darkness or Satan – shows up at your apartment brewing you are really nice cup of fair trade coffee.
So, our hero Billy is a struggling writer, living in Queens, working in a sandwich shop, recently dumped by his girlfriend and well…he’s a bit of a loser. He wakes up one morning with the Devil in his apartment, brewing a really awesome cup of coffee. The Devil has a job for him – to break into a warlock’s lair and steal back a relic that the warlock had stolen from Hell. The relic is a “Neko of Infinite Equilibrium” or a “Lucky Cat statue”. This one is kind of unique because it has the ability to give off an infinite amount of heat…essentially starting a fire that will consume that entire universe. If Billy retrieves the Neko from the evil Warlock (who apparently lives in a camouflaged tower in Manhattan), Lucifer promises that he will get Billy’s book published and it will be a huge success. Well alrighty then, but…why Billy? Why not a platoon of Navy Seals ?
Well….you have to read the book to find that out. It’s a fun read, a clever tale that keeps you going. I think that this is the first book for the author because I immediately wanted to know what else he had written, but couldn’t find anything. It does get weird…but that’s the point – right?
