Clearly Stockholm Syndrome

March 18, 2014 by Caitlin_D

I used to be a fan of Chelsea Handler, I’ve read her first three books and I used to watch Chelsea Lately. Her schtick began to ran thin and other than a few mentions on some gossip sites (mostly for her friendship with Jen Aniston) she fell of my radar. My father gifted me Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me for a recent birthday so I figured I’d give her another chance.

Chelsea Handler is a narcissistic, pathological liar who basically pays people to be her friend. Everyone who participated in the writing of this book (aside from two of her three contributing siblings) is on Chelsea’s payroll. She also finances lavish, booze fueled vacations for her friends on a constant basis, what’s horrific emotional torture when you can go to Cabo a few times a year?

The book itself is written by 11 people and Chelsea’s dog (wink wink) Chunk, each chapter is written by a different victim and they detail one or two horrible lies Chelsea has done to them. Clearly Chelsea is proud of her antics because she a. allowed this to be written & published and b. she writes a little after each entry. She actually made an elaborate lie involving a Time Magazine that caused her newlywed staff writer to ruin the last few days of his honeymoon. The book would be funny if it wasn’t so cringe worthy.

I skipped CBR for 2020 because I was expecting my first child and knew time would be finite. Then the world imploded and I missed the crap out of y'all. Plus I read so much less without y'all's recommendations! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Caitlin_D's Quick Questions interview.) View Caitlin_D's reviews»
