In the aftermath of an alien invasion, one girl and the child she rescues must live an entirely silent life to avoid detection. At least until they are discovered by a scientific enclave that changes everything.
It was entertaining, I liked the investigation into the beginnings of dystopia, and there were some bits that were unique. Could quite easily be the far prequel to “Brave New World.” It falls into some of the same YA tropes as “Divergent” and its ilk, with the young adult rebelling against the path she’s put on and stumbling into a conspiracy. Some bits were far too convenient, like her parents having a purely solar house with an electric fence and its own water supply, but on the other hand it didn’t fall into the “must have a big romance” trap. I felt it could have been two separate books, their existence in the house, and then after they are discovered by the enclave, the tone shifts dramatically. The big “reveal” at the end was interesting, though I did see it coming.
